Well, it’s time to take the 5D with me more often. I don’t know if this happened to some people but when you get a new brand camara, (a huge and expensive one) at the beginning scares you to get it along with you. Most when you live in a city going everywhere sourrounded by lots of people and have to take the subway many times a day. I think that’s why iPhone photography is working so well for everybody.

But I feel this term of fear has over for me. I want to take the camera outside not only for especial photo shot I have in mind.

One of the reasons is that the most I have it with me the most challenging and inspiration I feel.

Also I guess I had been contagied a bit by the photoblogging-daily-mania.

And after following some blogs I notice that what people want is stories. Not just random images but stories, people lives, what they like, what they do to have fun, the places they visit…etc. I think this works beacuase it makes people to be closer to other people whitout meet them. This is a real fact since the social media appear in our lives and takes a high position. Nowadays we live in a society in wich the visual has become a huge importance on our daily basis.We can see everything, in every minute everywhere we are. We post what we are eating/drinking at the very moment, what we think about “everything”, where we are at the moment,….etc. Plus since everybody can buy a cheap reflex and can call itself as a photographer we are sourrounded by images everywhere we go.

And for some reason I think this is a huge challenge for photographers. Can we see the artist anymore? Yes I think. When there where a few photographers there where only a few pictures and they become an incredible reference to all of us. Now that everybody can take photos it’s about HOW and WHAT. I think the artist highlights from the others by the way the pictures are taken, the feeling they portrait, the symbolic meaning, know how to take from the daily life the most significant pictures when we are already crowded/sorrounded by milions of images. And because we also live in the global opinion era I think this is submittet to personal opinion. In my case I know when someone put a lot of itself into a picture, and if this picture says something to me.

So I’am going to try (at least) to post once a week.

This is our yesterday meal at a mexican restaurant, not one of the best of the city but a nice one.

Tidying up

I have a project in mind….finally!….but first I (necesary) need to organize the thousand of pictures I had on my mac……that will take me hours for sure.

I REALLY NEED TO KNOW what other photographers do with their RAW files.Having all this on my laptop is too much space, but i’m not completely sure about delete some of them once you had edited the photos.

I like to have the Raw files for some pictures I take on purpose for some especial editing, but sometimes my mistake (or not) is that I forgot to set my camera to JPEG while taking some family/personal shots. And then that’s too maaaaany pictures…..so: did you always shot in RAW? at any situation?

(unfortunately) I think alot about how my next shot should be…..seems like photography it’s no longer a prority when you made of it an obligation. the more you think the less inspiration “came” to you…..I’ll be no planning anything of my shots from now on…. the greatest pictures are the ones you never planned. I get stuck so many times and as a result I do not do anything.

No photoshop retouching here. It’s all about light and it lucky composition. Every single shoot should have a thoughtful second.

So proud of these photos!
This is my advice: for taking pictures of little kids I recommend working with Av Mode (auto-exposure or aperture priority) in wich you can choose the aperture (F number) and the camera will choose the correct exposure for each photo by itself. And Yes! , Av is a semi-automatic mode, and perhaps some people see this as less professional, I don’t think so and works good as well, it is simply a matter of taste and priorities. Most of the time I work completely with manual mode, but when it’s about children, things get harder. I personally tend to work with big apertures, that means that the deph of field is small (on focus parts) and because my little model can stand still more than 3 seconds , to not have to change the settings every single time this saves me a lot of time and more than one good photo! because when it comes to toddlers you have to adapt to them.
It’s the first time that I put this into practice and it has come out pretty well.

Muy contenta de estas fotos! Este es mi consejo: Para hacer fotos de niños tan pequeños recomiendo trabajar con el modo AV (auto-exposición o prioridad a la apertura) ya que puedes elegir el diafragma (numero F) y la cámara escogerá la exposición correcta en cada foto. Y Sí ! , AV es un modo semi-automático, y tal vez a mucha gente le parecerá menos profesional, yo no lo creo y funciona bien igual, es simplemente un tema de gustos y prioridades. En gran parte hago las fotos en manual, pero cuando se trata de niños la cosa se pone difícil. A mi personalmente siempre me gusta trabajar con aperturas muy grandes, eso significa que la profundidad de campo es muy pequeña (la parte en foco) y ya que mi pequeño modelo no se estaba quieto mas de 3 segundos , no tener que cambiar los “settings” a cada minuto me salvó mucho tiempo y más de alguna buena foto! porque cuando se trata de niños hay que acoplarse a lo que ellos hagan improvisadamente. Es la primera vez que lo pongo bien en práctica y no ha quedado tan mal!

Last day of fashion week for me

This morning I did a few more shots, which I think are better than yesterday. My placement was better But this is the last day for me, the pictures look cool but i feel i didn’t do so much for capturing them (apart of the whoooooole photo post processing, of course). I found it different because its totally another world, this are not snapshots or casual situations, not candids,…… it was all prepared, all the poses, too mechanic….this is how i see all that now…… but i like it anyway!

Ooh!! and i couldn’t resist with the black and whites again! anyway this guys look good in any postprocessing.

So here’s the deal, when it comes to fashion it doesn’t attract all of my attention. I mean it just doesn’t mean the world to me. But the idea of photographing fashion, well that is kind of a challenge. Nowadays blogs are so full of “street style photogrophers” and so on. It looks redundant to see all the same style of pictures. There are thousands of people with different cool styles in those blogs but I don’t see different photography styles. It may seem simple to take a camera and shoot some people in the street, thinking you’re shooting fashion because of the fact that you are shooting people’s respective style. Nevertheless, what about the way you took the picture and the meaning you are trying to convey with that picture? I’m not against those types of blogs at all. Perhaps they just want to collect people’s personal styles and that’s all good. Personally I think the perfect balance would be 50% what you capture and 50% the way you do it. That is why I say that it’s challenge for me to try and photograph those scenes that are shown in thousands of magazines and other media outlets in that stereotyped, regurgitated way of photography. Or maybe I just don’t know anything about this. Anyways, I uploaded a few pictures and liked the way they turned out. It takes time for me to realize how to shoot them this way…with the black background (the room was really illuminated.) But I never played with lights like this before, cse I never had the change to take my camera to a studio or something of that nature, never using artificial light.
